The design

The Bönan lounge tables by Studio Norrlandet are low tables for the Bönan modular sofa. Combine an aluminium frame in dark or light grey with a top in teak or mineral composite, in a rectangular or square size.

Materials

The frame is powder-coated aluminium. Tops are solid teak or mineral composite, an ultra-compact, stain-resistant stone surface.

Dimensions

• Small: L 105 x W 60 x H 30 cm; frame 7 kg, teak top 5 kg, composite top 31 kg
• Large: L 105 x W 105 x H 30 cm; frame 12 kg, teak top 11 kg, composite top 55 kg

Details

• Top: teak, dark grey or light grey mineral composite
• Design: Studio Norrlandet
• Made by Skargaarden, Sweden

Powder-coated aluminium

Aluminium is light yet rigid, and it does not rust, which makes it ideal for outdoor furniture. Skargaarden frames are chemically pre-treated, then coated with a powder that is applied electrostatically and baked on. The result is a hard-wearing, scratch-resistant polyester finish with built-in UV resistance that protects the metal even further.

• Clean with clear water and a little liquid detergent.
• Use a soft brush to lift dirt from the surface texture if needed.
• Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads, which can damage the coating.

Teak

Skargaarden uses only high-grade teak (Tectona grandis) from carefully managed plantations. Teak is a dense hardwood, rich in natural oils, which makes it one of the most durable woods for outdoor use. It needs no preservatives or treatment to last, and every piece is sanded and polished before it leaves the factory.

Left outside, teak slowly turns a soft silver-grey as the surface oils evaporate. The oil deeper in the wood stays, and that is what keeps it strong. Small surface cracks or water marks can appear in the first months; these even out as the wood weathers to an even grey.

• A little rough after rain? When the furniture is used outside and gets wet, the surface of the teak becomes slightly rough. This is a natural process: a light sanding makes it smooth again, and it usually only needs doing once or twice in the beginning.
• Do not oil teak that stays outdoors. Oil does not make it last longer, can encourage mildew and leads to patchy colouring. Oil is only worth using on teak kept indoors.
• Rinse with a garden hose and wash now and then with mild soapy water and a soft brush. Never use a pressure washer.
• To keep the original honey colour, clean the wood with a teak cleaner, let it dry, then apply a thin layer of teak sealer. Repeat about once a year. Do not use sealer on new teak.
• Teak can stay outside all year, but it ages best if it spends the winter under a breathable cover or in an unheated shed.

Mineral composite tabletop

The mineral composite top is an ultra-compact surface with almost no porosity, so it resists stains from everyday use and household products and copes well with life outdoors.

• For regular cleaning, use a sponge or scouring pad with a dedicated stone cleaner such as Q-Action.
• Otherwise, neutral soap and water work well.

Winter storage

• Store the furniture indoors, or cover it with a breathable cover. A cover that is fully airtight traps moisture and can cause mould.
• Leave a small gap between the cover and the ground so air can circulate.

Warranty

• 2-year guarantee under EU consumer law, covering manufacturing defects.
• Natural weathering of teak (greying, roughening of the grain, small surface cracks) is part of the material's character and is not a defect.
